Noise of the World

The noise of the world is merely an echo of the soul looking for itself.  Do not cover your ears. Listen to the beautiful longing and be a guide.

In This Communion

“Power and cleverness call forth admiration but also a certain separation, a sense of distance; we are reminded of who we are not, of what we cannot do. On the other hand, sharing weaknesses and needs calls us together into “oneness.” We welcome those who love us into our heart. In this communion, we discover the deepest part of our being: the need to be loved and to have someone who trusts and appreciates us and who cares least of all about our capacity to work or to be clever and interesting.”

Being Aware

“When we lose awareness of and do not meditate on the existence of suffering in all things, we can easily be pushed around by passions and desires for worldly things, increasingly destroying our lives in the pursuit of these desires. Only by being aware of suffering can we find its cause, confront it directly, and eliminate it.”

~ Thich Nhat Hanh

3 Demons

Listening to a Richard Rohr lecture series discussing the Sermon on the Mount. In it he talks about 3 “demons” to be aware of at all times.

  1. The need to be effective.
  2. The need to be right.
  3. The need to be powerful or in control.

Jesus had to confront these before leaving the desert. They cannot be defeated but through awareness one hopes to keep them from running the show.

Interesting that much of the way our society is setup puts these 3 “demons” on a pedestal. Challenging to rewire after a lifetime of this programming.

We Won Right Now

I was meditating yesterday and had a thought about how most people have to constantly work to be in the NOW. Like we have to try and remember to be unafraid of what life is showing us right now. Why do we make it so complicated? All this work each day to live in awareness? Prayers. Rituals. Routines. What if all we had to remember to be in the NOW is that we have already WON? (“Now” spelled backwards) No work. No complicated time consuming steps. No proving our worth to feed the ego. What if we just have to remember that it was all decided long ago. (The “we” being all of humanity.) We WON. Right NOW.
